Smiths Astral dive watch (1968)

This is Smith’s take on the diving watch, which was becoming popular with the top Swiss brands by the 1960s. The watch has a robust, solid stainless steel case and stainless steel strap. The movable bezel, which can be rotated to track your time underwater, is in good condition. I’m not sure how seriously this watch was intended for actual diving: although it’s very well sealed against water ingress I’m not sure the rating of 20ATM is deep enough for practical diving. 

This is one of the rarest of all the Smiths models, it appeared only once in their catalogues, in 1969. The movement is the excellent Smiths 27.CS with shockproofing and (unusually for Smiths) the addition of a simple calendar. 

The movement has been fully serviced and the timekeeping is excellent. The case has been cleaned, but as with all out vintage watches we have left it unpolished. The original crystal has been preserved and polished, the watch comes with what I believe is the original steel strap. The watch comes with our standard 12 month guarantee.
